Southbank City are proud to announce our renewed sponsorship of Nottingham’s very own World Champion boxer: Leigh Wood.
We first got involved with Leigh last year – it was a real leap of faith coming out of the pandemic especially as hospitality venues were still in lockdown at the time – but the working relationship has grown over the past 12 months and we’ve been with him all the way on his journey to become the WBA World title holder – his first fight with Southbank as his sponsor!. Leigh went on to retain the title in spectacular fashion at the Motorpoint arena in March, we’re looking forward to another huge year for Leigh with the prospect of a massive City Ground fight on the cards.
Southbank City has, for many years, championed the achievements of local sports people and teams. You appreciate this when visiting the bar: screens around the entire venue, signed memorabilia, and artistic commissions from local photographers and designers showcasing the city’s sporting legends.
The contract signing came a year to the day after Leigh’s magnificent 12th round World Title victory at Matchrooms fight camp and the announcement today is a fitting birthday present for both Leigh and Southbank City director Owen Roach.
Mr Roach said “We have held several fan engagement events with Leigh at Southbank City over the past 12 months including meet and greets, Forest watch alongs, VIP sponsors’ event and the fantastic ‘Evening With’ in June – Leigh is a pleasure to deal with and always has time to chat and take photos with the fans, customers and staff – we’re delighted to support him in his career for another 12 months”
Leigh commented “Southbank City have been incredibly supportive over the past year – I’m always well looked after by the team there as are my family, the events I have been to have been a real pleasure to be involved in. Their continued support helps me knuckle down and concentrate on training and I’m really glad to have them in my corner for another 12 months. The lads are very easy to get along with and are big boxing fans which really helps. I am delighted to be on team Southbank City for another year.
